For our patients with ischaemic strokes without history of atrial fibrillation, we must target vascular risk factors as a key strategy in the reduction of cognitive impairment, using various prevention treatments: (i) antihypertensives; (ii) combination of aspirin and dipyridamole; (iii) statin when clinically indicated; and (iv) the combination of antihypertensives, antithrombotic agents and lipid lowering drugs.
